Location and Strategic Importance of the Gurugram Supercharger

The selection of Gurugram for Tesla’s first Supercharger station is strategic. Gurugram is one of India’s fastest-growing urban centers, known for its corporate hubs, premium residential developments, and strong road connectivity. Golf Course Road, in particular, is a high-traffic corridor that connects key business and lifestyle destinations. By placing the Supercharger station at DLF Horizon Center, Tesla ensures easy access for daily commuters, business travelers, and long-distance drivers. This location also aligns with Tesla’s global approach of situating chargers in premium, well-connected areas.

Charging Infrastructure and Technology Overview

The Gurugram Supercharger station is equipped with advanced charging technology designed to meet diverse user needs. It features four V4 Superchargers capable of delivering peak charging speeds of up to 250kW. These high-speed chargers are ideal for drivers who need quick top-ups during long journeys. In addition, the site includes three Destination Chargers rated at 11kW, which are better suited for longer stops such as shopping, dining, or work meetings. This combination ensures flexibility, catering to both rapid charging and more relaxed charging scenarios.

Fast Charging Performance and User Experience

Tesla highlights that its Superchargers can significantly reduce charging time. According to the company, a Tesla Model Y can gain up to 275 kilometers of driving range in just 15 minutes when connected to a Supercharger. This capability makes long-distance travel more practical and time-efficient for electric vehicle owners. The charging process is seamlessly integrated with the Tesla app, allowing users to navigate to the station, view real-time stall availability, track charging progress, receive completion alerts, and handle payments digitally. Tesla also emphasizes a network uptime of 99.95 percent, underscoring its focus on reliability and customer convenience.

Expansion of Tesla Charging Network in India

With the Gurugram station now operational, Tesla’s charging footprint in India spans three major cities: Gurugram, Delhi, and Mumbai. Together, these locations offer a total of 12 Superchargers and 10 Destination Chargers. In Delhi, Tesla chargers are located at Worldmark, while Mumbai’s charging facility is based at One BKC. This growing network reflects Tesla’s phased approach to infrastructure expansion, focusing initially on metropolitan regions with higher electric vehicle adoption potential before expanding further.

To help customers better understand its charging technology, Tesla has announced interactive workshops at the Gurugram Supercharger station from December 17 to December 21. These sessions are designed to demonstrate how Superchargers and Destination Chargers work in real-world conditions. Such initiatives highlight Tesla’s emphasis on education and customer engagement, helping new users transition smoothly to electric vehicles.

Tesla Model Y Availability and Specifications in India

The expansion of Tesla’s charging infrastructure coincides with the availability of the Tesla Model Y in the Indian market. The electric SUV is offered in two configurations. The Rear-Wheel Drive variant features a 60kWh LFP battery with a claimed WLTP range of up to 500 kilometers. The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive version offers an extended claimed range of 622 kilometers. In terms of performance, the RWD variant accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range version achieves the same in 5.6 seconds. Both variants have an electronically limited top speed of 201 kmph.

Pricing, Options, and Home Charging Support

Pricing for the Tesla Model Y in India starts at Rs 59.89 lakh for the Rear-Wheel Drive variant and Rs 67.89 lakh for the Long Range RWD, both ex-showroom Delhi. Tesla also offers an optional self-driving package priced at Rs 6 lakh, though certain features depend on regulatory approvals. In addition to public charging, Tesla has reiterated its commitment to providing home charging support for customers. This holistic approach aims to ensure that owners have access to convenient charging solutions both at home and on the road.
