Contrary to earlier industry expectations that brands might scale back storage options to maintain profit margins, the latest developments indicate a clear shift toward expanding internal storage across both premium and mid-range devices.

Industry estimates suggest that these AI systems may require anywhere between 40GB and 60GB of internal storage for smooth performance. As a result, smartphone manufacturers are rethinking their base storage offerings to ensure devices can support these capabilities without compromising user experience.

Supply Chain Changes Limiting Lower Storage Options

Another important development influencing this trend is happening at the manufacturing level. Memory suppliers are gradually phasing out lower-capacity NAND flash components as they upgrade production technologies. This shift is reducing the availability of smaller storage modules, making it increasingly difficult for smartphone brands to continue offering entry-level storage variants.

Interestingly, industry insiders suggest that in some flagship models, the cost of advanced memory configurations is beginning to rival or even exceed the cost of the main processing chipset. Despite this, companies appear willing to absorb the additional expense to remain competitive.

Mid-Range Segment Also Seeing Upgrades

While premium devices are setting the pace, mid-range smartphones are not far behind. Many brands are gradually reducing the availability of lower storage variants such as 64GB and focusing instead on 128GB and 256GB options.
