Mercedes-Benz is preparing to reintroduce the CLA badge in India, this time as a fully electric offering. The model had previously exited the Indian lineup in 2020 when its internal combustion version was discontinued. Now, the new CLA EV is expected to take on the role of the brand’s most accessible sedan, replacing multiple entry-level models currently on sale globally.

A Fresh Exterior With Aerodynamic Focus

The upcoming CLA EV reflects a modern design approach with a strong emphasis on efficiency and sleek styling. Its coupe-like profile remains intact, but the new version features cleaner surfaces and sharper detailing.

At the front, the sedan showcases a closed grille finished in gloss black, embedded with illuminated star elements that highlight its electric identity. The headlamps adopt a dual-pod LED layout connected by a thin light strip, creating a distinctive face.

From the side, the vehicle appears streamlined with flush-fitting door handles and specially designed alloy wheels aimed at reducing drag. The rear section continues the theme with a full-width LED light bar that visually connects the tail lamps. Buyers will have multiple colour choices, including shades like blue, black, white, grey, and red.

Interior Highlights And Technology Features

Inside the cabin, the CLA EV adopts a digital-first layout that reflects the brand’s latest design direction. The dashboard is dominated by screens, including a 10.25-inch display for the driver and a larger 14-inch touchscreen for infotainment. In some markets, an additional display for the front passenger is also offered.

Comfort and convenience have been given significant attention. The front seats come with electric adjustment, heating, and memory functions. A fixed panoramic glass roof enhances the sense of space, while automatic climate control and touch-enabled steering controls add to ease of use.

Premium materials are used across the dashboard and centre console, contributing to an upmarket feel. The overall layout is clean, with minimal physical buttons, reinforcing the car’s modern appeal.

Safety Systems And Driver Assistance

Safety remains a key focus for the new CLA EV. The sedan is equipped with six airbags and a 360-degree camera system to assist with parking and manoeuvring. Additional features include blind-spot monitoring and tyre pressure monitoring systems.

Advanced driver assistance features are also included, with Level 2 capabilities expected. These systems help with functions such as lane keeping and adaptive driving support. Reports suggest the model has achieved a top safety rating in European crash tests, further strengthening its credentials.

Performance, Battery And Range Details

For the Indian market, the initial offering is likely to be the CLA 250+ variant. This version is powered by an 85 kWh battery pack paired with a rear-mounted electric motor. The setup produces approximately 268 horsepower and 335 Nm of torque.

One of the standout aspects of the new CLA EV is its claimed driving range. Based on global testing standards, the sedan is expected to deliver up to 792 kilometres on a single charge, positioning it among the longest-range electric vehicles in its category.

Charging capabilities are equally notable. With support for high-speed DC charging up to 240 kW, the battery can regain a significant amount of range in a short time. Under optimal conditions, around 400 kilometres of range can be added in roughly 20 minutes.

The vehicle also features a two-speed transmission system, which is uncommon in electric cars. This setup contributes to both efficiency and performance, enabling the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under seven seconds.

Market Positioning And Expectations

With its launch, the CLA EV is expected to play a crucial role in expanding Mercedes-Benz’s electric portfolio in India. By combining long range, advanced technology, and premium positioning, the model aims to attract buyers looking to transition from conventional luxury sedans to electric alternatives.

The introduction of this model also reflects the growing demand for high-end electric vehicles in the country, as infrastructure and consumer awareness continue to improve.
