AutoSales – Honda India Reports Steady March Growth Amid EV Plans
AutoSales – Honda Cars India Ltd. reported a modest rise in its domestic vehicle sales for March 2026, reflecting steady demand in the passenger car segment. The company sold 7,585 units in the domestic market during the month, registering a 5 percent increase compared to the same period last year. However, export numbers declined significantly, with 2,451 units shipped overseas versus 4,656 units in March 2025.

Strong Demand for Key Models Drives Domestic Sales
The company’s domestic growth was largely supported by continued customer interest in its popular models, particularly the Amaze sedan and Elevate SUV. These vehicles remained the main contributors to overall sales performance. In addition, special promotional campaigns and financial offers introduced toward the end of the financial year played a crucial role in boosting customer purchases.
March is traditionally a busy period for automobile sales in India, as buyers look to take advantage of year-end deals and discounts. Honda’s focused marketing strategy appears to have aligned well with this seasonal demand, helping the company maintain positive momentum in a competitive market environment.

Commenting on the sales performance, a senior executive from the company’s sales and marketing division noted that demand across Honda’s lineup remained consistent. The company also expressed optimism about the upcoming financial year, indicating plans to broaden its product portfolio. A major highlight of its future roadmap is the introduction of its first battery electric vehicle in India, which is expected to arrive in the latter half of the year. The move signals Honda’s intention to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle segment.
Electric SUV Testing Begins Across India
As part of its long-term strategy, Honda has initiated testing of its upcoming electric SUV across various regions in India. The prototype, which was previously showcased at an international mobility event in Japan in 2025, is now undergoing evaluation under diverse Indian road and weather conditions.
These tests are aimed at ensuring that the vehicle meets local performance requirements before its official launch. The electric SUV is expected to play a key role in Honda’s global EV strategy, with India being one of the primary markets.
Investment and Manufacturing Plans Take Shape
To support its electric vehicle ambitions, Honda is investing approximately Rs 1,200 crore in the development and production of the new SUV. The vehicle will be manufactured at the company’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan, which is being prepared to handle EV production.
The upcoming model is expected to be launched simultaneously in India and Japan as part of a broader global rollout planned for the financial year 2026–27. This approach highlights the company’s intent to integrate India into its global manufacturing and innovation network.
