EV – MG Windsor Commute Variant Launched for Fleet Buyers in India
EV – MG Motor India has introduced a new variant of its Windsor EV, aimed specifically at fleet operators and commercial users. The newly launched Commute trim is priced at Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more affordable than the entry-level version of the standard Windsor. The move reflects the company’s focus on expanding its presence in the growing electric mobility segment, particularly in urban transport services.

Focus on Cost-Effective Fleet Operations
The Windsor Commute has been positioned as a practical choice for taxi services and business fleets. By lowering the price point by around Rs 60,000 compared to the base variant, MG aims to attract buyers seeking a balance between upfront cost and long-term savings. The company continues to offer its Battery-as-a-Service model, allowing operators to reduce initial ownership expenses by opting for battery rental instead of purchasing it outright.
Powertrain and Range Remain Unchanged
Despite its lower price, the Commute variant retains the same mechanical setup as the Windsor Excite model. It is powered by a 38kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed driving range of 332 km on a single charge under ARAI standards. This range is considered adequate for daily city operations, particularly in ride-hailing or short-distance travel services.
The electric motor produces 134 horsepower and 200 Nm of peak torque, ensuring consistent performance for urban driving conditions. Charging options remain unchanged as well, with support for both standard AC charging and faster DC charging, offering flexibility for operators managing tight schedules.
Simplified Features to Reduce Costs
To keep the pricing competitive, MG has made several adjustments to the feature list. The Commute variant replaces alloy wheels with 17-inch steel wheels and comes with a smaller 7-inch driver display. The infotainment system has also been simplified, removing the larger touchscreen found in higher variants. Instead, it supports essential functions such as Bluetooth connectivity, USB input, and FM radio.
Inside the cabin, the focus shifts to durability rather than luxury. Fabric upholstery is used instead of premium materials, and the overall design adopts a more basic finish. However, the layout remains functional, ensuring comfort for both drivers and passengers during extended use.
Exterior Design Largely Retained
While the interior sees noticeable changes, the exterior styling remains largely consistent with the standard Windsor EV. Key elements such as LED projector headlamps, integrated turn indicators on the ORVMs, and flush door handles have been retained. This ensures that the vehicle still carries a modern and recognizable design despite its fleet-oriented positioning.
Essential Features and Safety Equipment
The Commute variant includes a set of practical features aimed at everyday usability. These include manual air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and a steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustment. Rear seat recline functionality is also available, enhancing passenger comfort during longer journeys.
On the safety front, MG has equipped the vehicle with four disc brakes, dual airbags, hill-hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Additionally, all occupants are provided with three-point seatbelts, aligning with standard safety expectations in this segment.
Strategy Targets Commercial Mobility Segment
With the introduction of the Windsor Commute, MG Motor India is clearly targeting businesses and fleet operators rather than individual buyers seeking premium features. The emphasis is on reliability, efficiency, and lower ownership costs, which are critical factors for commercial usage.
As electric vehicles continue to gain traction in India’s urban mobility landscape, offerings like the Windsor Commute are expected to play a key role in accelerating adoption among fleet operators. By focusing on practicality over luxury, MG is positioning this variant as a viable option for daily commercial operations.
