Automobile – Range Rover Sport Autobiography Now Locally Built in India
Automobile – Land Rover has introduced a locally assembled version of the Range Rover Sport Autobiography in India, marking a notable expansion of its domestic production lineup. The newly launched model carries a starting price of Rs 1.60 crore (ex-showroom), and bookings have officially commenced nationwide. This is the first instance of the Autobiography variant being manufactured within the country for the Range Rover Sport lineup.

Enhanced Exterior Styling and Design Details
The Autobiography trim distinguishes itself through a series of refined design upgrades over the standard model. It features newly designed 22-inch forged alloy wheels finished in satin black, paired with red brake callipers that enhance its sporty appeal. Signature Autobiography badging further sets it apart visually.
The SUV also incorporates a dynamic exterior package that includes flush-fitting door handles, a gesture-controlled powered tailgate, laminated glass for improved insulation, and heated, power-folding mirrors with memory functionality. Buyers can choose from a range of premium colour options such as Borasco Grey, Ostuni Pearl White, Santorini Black, and Carpathian Grey, offering both subtle and bold styling preferences.
Interior Comfort and Premium Features
Inside the cabin, the Autobiography variant elevates luxury with finer materials and added comfort features. The interior includes upgraded leather upholstery, enhanced ambient lighting, and a combination of wood and metal trim elements that contribute to a more sophisticated atmosphere.
The SUV is equipped with 22-way electrically adjustable front seats that offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Rear passengers benefit from reclining seats that are also heated and ventilated. Additional features include four-zone climate control, an advanced air purification system, and a refrigerated compartment in the front centre console.
The infotainment and safety systems have also been expanded, providing a more comprehensive package aimed at both convenience and occupant protection.
Engine Options and Performance Capabilities
With local assembly now in place, Land Rover is offering the Autobiography trim with multiple engine choices suited to different buyer needs. The India-built versions are powered by 3.0-litre petrol and diesel engines, both paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.
The diesel variant, known as the D350, produces 351 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 234 kmph. Meanwhile, the P400 petrol version delivers 400 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque, achieving 0 to 100 kmph in 5.5 seconds with a top speed of 242 kmph.
For customers seeking higher performance, the fully imported version of the Range Rover Sport Autobiography continues to be available with a 4.4-litre V8 engine. This variant generates 530 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, enabling a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph.
Impact of Local Production on Pricing and Market Position
By assembling the Autobiography variant in India, Land Rover has positioned the model more competitively within the luxury SUV segment. The move helps bring the top-tier trim closer in price to variants like the Dynamic HSE, making it more accessible to a broader group of buyers.
At the same time, the locally assembled model retains the core architecture and performance characteristics of the current-generation Range Rover Sport. This ensures that customers do not have to compromise on quality or capability while benefiting from improved pricing and availability.
The introduction of this variant reflects a broader strategy by the company to strengthen its presence in India by expanding local manufacturing and offering more tailored options for the market.
