ElectricSUV – Tata Punch.ev Updated With New Battery and Pricing

ElectricSUV –  Tata Motors has introduced the refreshed Punch.ev in India, with prices starting at Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks the first significant upgrade to the company’s smallest electric SUV since its launch. The update brings measured design refinements, a wider battery portfolio, improved claimed range figures, and added features intended to make electric vehicle ownership more practical for everyday buyers.

Bookings for the updated model are now open across the country, and deliveries are expected to begin soon. The Punch.ev continues to be offered in three trims — Smart, Adventure and Empowered — targeting urban users while aiming to better support occasional highway travel.

Revised Pricing and Variant Strategy

The facelifted Punch.ev is priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 12.59 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the chosen variant and battery pack. With this update, Tata has attempted to position the electric SUV closer to similarly sized petrol-powered models, narrowing the price gap in the entry-level SUV segment.

In a notable shift, the base version of the new Punch.ev is now Rs 30,000 more affordable than the outgoing model. The move is expected to strengthen its appeal among first-time electric car buyers.

To further lower the initial purchase cost, Tata has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service option. Under this plan, customers can buy the vehicle at a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh, while paying a battery usage subscription of Rs 2.6 per kilometre separately. The company says this model is designed to reduce upfront expenses and offer flexibility to customers exploring electric mobility.

Subtle Exterior Updates

The updated Punch.ev carries forward its familiar silhouette but receives several noticeable styling changes. At the front, the SUV features a redesigned bumper with a cleaner finish and a closed grille. The earlier black strip connecting the headlamps has been removed, giving the nose a simpler and more streamlined look.

Signature Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps remain intact, as does the centrally placed charging flap. Along the sides, the introduction of new 16-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels — inspired by larger Tata electric vehicles — is aimed at improving aerodynamic efficiency.

At the rear, connected LED tail-lamps give the SUV a more contemporary appearance, aligning it visually with the internal combustion version of the Punch. The vehicle retains a ground clearance of 195mm and a water-wading capacity of 450mm, preserving its practical credentials for city use. Three new exterior shades have been added, each paired with a contrasting black roof.

Cabin Enhancements and Technology

Inside, the Punch.ev maintains its dual-tone dashboard layout, now complemented by updated trim finishes. The cabin layout remains functional, with higher variants receiving additional technology features.

Top trims are equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch fully digital driver display. Depending on the variant, features include wireless charging, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, connected car functions and a 360-degree camera system.

The SUV also integrates Tata’s connected ecosystem through the IRA.ev app, allowing users to monitor charging status, locate available public chargers and make payments digitally across the brand’s expanding charging network.

Expanded Battery Options and Range

A key highlight of the update is the introduction of a new 40kWh battery pack. This unit delivers an ARAI-certified range of 468km, while the company claims a real-world driving range of around 355km under standard testing conditions. The larger battery is intended to make intercity travel more feasible.

The existing 30kWh battery option continues, offering a certified range of 365km. Both versions are paired with a front-mounted electric motor, with the 40kWh variants producing 129bhp and powering the front wheels.

Fast-charging support remains available. Using a 65kW DC fast charger, the battery can be replenished from 20 percent to 80 percent in 26 minutes. Tata states that a 15-minute charging session can add up to 135km of real-world driving range.

The company is also offering a lifetime warranty on the high-voltage battery with unlimited kilometres, aimed at addressing long-term durability concerns among prospective buyers.

Safety and Market Positioning

Safety features on the Punch.ev now include six airbags as standard across all variants. Additional equipment includes electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. Higher trims also offer high beam assist and a 360-degree camera to improve visibility and parking convenience.

In the domestic market, the Punch.ev competes with models such as the Citroen eC3 and sits between the Tata Tiago EV and Tata Nexon EV in the company’s electric vehicle range. With revised pricing, an expanded battery line-up and improved features, the updated Punch.ev aims to strengthen its position as an accessible electric SUV for mainstream buyers.
