JetourT2 – ASEAN Crash Tests Award Five-Star Safety Rating

JetourT2 – The Jetour T2 sport utility vehicle, developed by Chery Automobile, has secured a five-star safety rating in the latest crash assessments conducted by ASEAN NCAP. The strong performance has drawn attention in India as the SUV is widely believed to form the base for the first model expected from the upcoming partnership between JSW Motors and Chery.

Jetourt2 asean crash test five star

Industry watchers believe the India-focused version will carry JSW branding and a different model name, though its design and engineering are expected to closely resemble the Jetour T2. A design patent has already been submitted in India, and JSW has previously released a teaser silhouette that strongly resembles the T2’s boxy styling. If timelines remain unchanged, the SUV could make its debut in the Indian market around the Diwali festival in 2026. The launch would mark the first product under the JSW-Chery collaboration, which operates independently from MG Motor India.

Strong Adult Occupant Protection Performance

In the adult occupant protection category, the Jetour T2 recorded an impressive score of 29.74 out of a possible 32 points. The frontal impact test contributed 13.74 out of 16 points, while the side impact test delivered a perfect score of 8 out of 8.

Crash evaluation results indicated that the vehicle’s passenger compartment remained structurally stable during the frontal offset collision test. Data gathered from crash-test dummies showed adequate protection for the driver’s chest area. However, evaluators noted marginal protection for the driver’s left leg during the same test.

The SUV also earned full marks for its head protection technology. Additional deployment tests confirmed that the system performed effectively, meeting the standards outlined in the Fitment Rating System used by ASEAN NCAP.

Child Occupant Safety Assessment

The Jetour T2 also delivered a solid performance in the child occupant protection category, achieving 40.63 points out of a total 51.

During the frontal impact test involving child seats, the vehicle scored 15.62 out of 16 points. In the side impact test, it secured a perfect 8 out of 8. These results indicate a strong level of protection for younger passengers when appropriate child restraint systems are installed.

Compatibility with child restraint systems received 9.02 out of 12 points, reflecting good but not perfect installation flexibility. Additional vehicle-based safety measures contributed 7 out of 13 points. In the Child Presence Detection system test, which evaluates technology designed to prevent children from being left unattended inside a vehicle, the SUV received 1 out of 2 points.

Advanced Safety Assistance Features Evaluated

The SUV also performed well in the Safety Assist category, scoring 18 out of 21 points overall. Emergency Brake Assist and seatbelt reminder systems received full marks, highlighting their effectiveness in improving driver and passenger safety.

Autonomous Emergency Braking performance was evaluated in different driving conditions. The system earned 1.25 out of 2.5 points in city-based testing scenarios and 1.75 out of 3.5 points in inter-urban conditions.

Additional advanced safety assist technologies secured the maximum available score of 3 points, reflecting the presence of modern driver assistance features designed to reduce accident risks.

Motorcyclist and Road User Protection

ASEAN NCAP also evaluated how well the vehicle protects vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists. In this category, the Jetour T2 scored 13 out of 16 points.

The SUV demonstrated strong performance in blind spot detection, pedestrian protection measures, and other advanced safety systems designed to reduce collisions involving two-wheelers and pedestrians.

Safety Equipment and Driver Assistance Systems

The Jetour T2 comes equipped with a comprehensive list of safety features. Standard equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear occupant detection, and seatbelt reminders for all passengers.

The vehicle can also be equipped with additional driver assistance technologies. These include Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic High Beam, and Autonomous Emergency Braking systems capable of detecting pedestrians and motorcycles.

With its strong crash test results and extensive safety technology, the Jetour T2 is expected to play a key role in the upcoming entry of JSW Motors into the Indian passenger vehicle market.
