New Ride Choices for Delhi: Bharat Taxi Launches Its Pilot Phase in the Capital
New Ride Choices for Delhi: Commuters in Delhi now have another dependable option for daily travel as Bharat Taxi, a newly developed ride-hailing platform, has started its pilot rollout in the national capital. The service is designed to offer an efficient, safe, and driver-focused mobility experience, positioning itself as a strong alternative to major operators that currently dominate the market. With thousands of drivers already on board and a cooperative structure backing its operations, Bharat Taxi aims to reshape the way people in the city access transportation.

Foundation of the Cooperative Model
One of the most defining characteristics of Bharat Taxi is its cooperative foundation. The platform is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd., a multi-state cooperative society officially registered under the MSCS Act 2002. The organization is supported by prominent cooperative institutions that include Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, NCEL, NCDC, and NABARD. This structure allows the initiative to prioritize both driver welfare and consumer convenience instead of focusing on commission-driven revenue models. The cooperative has also included two elected driver representatives on its board, giving drivers a direct voice in decision-making.
Strong Start with a Large Driver Base
During its pilot phase, the platform has gathered notable traction across Delhi. More than fifty-one thousand drivers from different segments such as car taxis, auto-rickshaws, and bike taxis have already joined the network. This wide onboarding aims to ensure that commuters will find a ride easily during busy hours and across various neighbourhoods. The service plans to continue expanding its driver ecosystem to maintain consistent availability and diverse transport options for passengers.
Passenger-Focused App Design
The mobile application of Bharat Taxi has been developed with a clear emphasis on user convenience. The app offers simple ride booking along with transparent fare information and real-time vehicle tracking. These features are intended to build trust among commuters and help them make informed choices about their travel. The interface supports multiple Indian languages, allowing users from different linguistic backgrounds to navigate the app comfortably. With 24/7 customer assistance, the platform aims to reduce common ride-related concerns and ensure prompt support whenever needed.
Zero Commission Advantage for Drivers
A major highlight of Bharat Taxi is its zero-commission model. Unlike many existing ride-hailing companies that take a percentage of the driver’s earnings, this platform allows drivers to retain the full amount collected from each completed trip. As the cooperative society generates profit, that amount will be distributed back to registered drivers, enhancing their earning potential and financial stability. This structure attracts drivers seeking an alternative to commission-heavy services and encourages them to participate in a system designed around their benefit.
Enhanced Safety and Integrated Travel
Bharat Taxi has also laid significant emphasis on safety standards. The cooperative has formed a strategic collaboration with Delhi Police to enhance the safety of both riders and drivers. The app includes verified onboarding, tech-enabled monitoring features, and strengthened service protocols to ensure a secure travel environment. Additionally, the platform aims to simplify travel by integrating its services with major existing transport networks, including Metro rail routes. This integration is expected to help commuters plan multi-modal journeys more efficiently, reducing the friction often experienced during city travel.
A Step Toward Reducing Dependency on Private Platforms
The wider objective behind the introduction of Bharat Taxi is to gradually reduce the dependency of commercial drivers on private ride-hailing companies. Presented in Parliament by the Union Ministry, this initiative aims to create more autonomy for drivers across the country while giving commuters a reliable mobility partner. The cooperative model ensures that the benefits circulate back to the workforce and encourages sustainable growth in the sector. With its ongoing pilot phase already in motion, Bharat Taxi has positioned itself as a significant emerging player in Delhi’s mobility landscape.
