SQ8 – Audi India Schedules High-Performance SUV Launch for March 17
SQ8 – Audi India is preparing to introduce its new performance SUV, the SQ8, to the Indian market on March 17. The model is positioned strategically between the Q8 and the more aggressive RS Q8, offering buyers a balance of everyday usability and heightened performance. With this addition, the company aims to strengthen its presence in the luxury SUV segment by offering a variant that delivers enhanced driving dynamics without stepping into full RS territory.

Engine and Performance Details
At the core of the SQ8 lies a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine capable of producing 507 horsepower and 770 Nm of peak torque. The same engine configuration also powers the range-topping RS Q8, though the tuning in the SQ8 is calibrated for a more refined yet sporty character. Power is delivered through an 8-speed automatic transmission, ensuring smooth gear shifts and consistent performance across varied driving conditions.
In comparison, the standard Q8 available in India runs on a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine generating 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. The introduction of the SQ8 therefore bridges a significant performance gap within the lineup, offering customers a stronger alternative without moving to the most extreme variant.
Exterior Design and Styling Updates
The Audi SQ8 carries forward the coupe-inspired silhouette that defines the Q8 range, but with sharper styling elements that emphasize its sport-focused identity. The front fascia features Audi’s signature single-frame grille finished in a honeycomb pattern, accompanied by darkened accents that lend a more assertive stance. Sleek headlamps and a sculpted bumper with enlarged air intakes further distinguish it from the standard model.
Along the sides, the sloping roofline flows into a pronounced shoulder line, enhancing the vehicle’s athletic profile. S-specific alloy wheels and contrasting dark trim elements add to its dynamic appeal. At the rear, a full-width light bar stretches across the tailgate, while a diffuser-style bumper and quad exhaust outlets reinforce the performance credentials. A roof-mounted spoiler completes the sporty exterior package.
Cabin Layout and Comfort Features
Inside the cabin, the SQ8 blends luxury with performance-focused details. A flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel featuring S badging and paddle shifters sits at the center of the driver’s environment. The center console is finished in gloss black and houses an electronic gear selector, contributing to the modern layout.
Sport seats upholstered in a combination of leather and Alcantara provide enhanced lateral support, complemented by contrast stitching and S logos. Ambient lighting and premium materials elevate the overall interior ambiance. The rear seating layout remains consistent with the standard Q8, maintaining practicality for passengers.
The SUV comes equipped with dual 12.3-inch digital displays—one serving as the instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment screen. Additional features include a Bang & Olufsen audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, connected car technology, multi-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and powered front seats offering heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
Safety and Driver Assistance Systems
Audi has equipped the SQ8 with a comprehensive suite of safety features. Standard equipment includes multiple airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, traction control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Parking assistance is supported by a 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors.
The SUV is also expected to feature advanced driver-assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. ISOFIX mounts further enhance child safety provisions.
With its combination of strong performance, updated styling, and advanced technology, the Audi SQ8 is set to offer Indian buyers a compelling option in the premium performance SUV segment when it arrives next month.
