AppleMusic – Apple Tests AI Playlist Creation in iOS 26.4 Beta
AppleMusic – Apple has begun testing a new artificial intelligence feature inside Apple Music, introducing an experimental tool called Playlist Playground with the first iOS 26.4 developer beta released on Monday.

The addition is part of the company’s broader Apple Intelligence initiative and aims to simplify how users build and discover playlists. Rather than manually selecting songs, subscribers can now generate curated collections by typing short text prompts that reflect a mood, genre, or specific theme.
AI Tool Designed to Simplify Playlist Creation
Playlist Playground appears within the Library section of the Apple Music app. Users can select the option to create a new playlist and then enter a brief description such as a preferred music style or emotional tone. Based on that input, the app automatically compiles a suggested list of songs.
For those unsure of what to write, Apple has included ready-made prompt suggestions to help spark ideas. This approach is intended to make playlist building more intuitive, especially for listeners who may not have a specific track list in mind but know the vibe they want.
Early previews shared by X user Max Weinbach (@mweinbach) show the feature in action. A small on-screen note indicates that the tool “may create unexpected results,” suggesting Apple is still refining the AI’s recommendations during the beta phase.
Editing and Customization Remain in Users’ Control
While the feature relies on artificial intelligence to assemble an initial playlist, users retain full control over the final outcome. Once the suggested tracks appear, they can adjust the selection using follow-up prompts without restarting the process.
Listeners are able to manually remove songs, rearrange the order, or add additional tracks of their choice. The system also automatically generates a custom title and typically recommends around 25 songs based on the original request. This blend of automation and user input is designed to balance convenience with personal preference.
Part of the Apple Intelligence Expansion
Playlist Playground forms part of Apple’s wider rollout of Apple Intelligence features in iOS 26.4. However, developers testing the beta version may not immediately see the new option after installation. Reports suggest that certain AI models required for the feature may continue downloading in the background.
In some cases, users might need to check their Apple Intelligence and Siri settings to confirm that the necessary services are enabled. Once the background setup is complete, the option should become visible within the Music app interface.
Subtle Interface Updates and Event Discovery
Beyond the AI playlist tool, iOS 26.4 beta 1 introduces modest design changes within Apple Music. One notable update includes dynamic backgrounds that adapt to the artwork of the currently playing album or track, offering a more immersive visual experience.
There are also indications that Apple may be preparing to add a concert discovery feature. This potential addition could help users find nearby live music events directly within the app, expanding Apple Music’s role beyond streaming into event exploration.
For now, these updates are limited to registered developers testing the beta software. A public beta is expected in the coming weeks, followed by a broader release once Apple finalizes performance and stability improvements.
The introduction of AI-powered playlist creation marks another step in Apple’s ongoing effort to integrate advanced machine learning tools across its ecosystem. As testing continues, further refinements are likely before the feature reaches all users.
